Thank you Suleyka for sharing your creative and inspiring ideas.

Your students must be having a lot of fun!

The first idea is the Expression Theatre. Some of my students have a hard time pausing when there is a period; or showing the expression that the characterhas in the picture. I made a little theatre out of a box I found in the copy room and some tape. The children will decorate it. We used some cutouts of the characters in the story as puppets. We colored them, cut them out, and glued them to some popsicle sticks. The students will read the story from behind the theatre and act it out as they read with the puppets we made. We’re still working on it, but we should be trying it out next week. I discussed my idea with the students and they loved it! They are looking forward to reading in the theatre. I will send you pics of the theatre when it is done!

My second idea is a Reading Scavenger Hunt. What I do is take questions from the Comprehension Quick Check, or just some questions that I make up. Then I write them on the back page of the front cover of the first page. The students have to find the answer and write down the page number where they found it. This will help them look back in the text for answers, rather than just guessing.

OSBA is excited to announce it will again offer the Business Honor Roll program this year. The association created this worthwhile program in 2011 to provide school districts with an opportunity to say “thanks” to local businesses for their support and contributions. Since its inception the program has been a great success and districts from around the state have participated.

The purpose of this program is to help OSBA members maintain and build upon the support they receive from their local business community. If your district has firms that support your schools, OSBA encourages you to name them to the Business Honor Roll.

Some examples of support include:

• volunteering in schools and offering employees time off to volunteer,

• serving as a mentor or tutor

Nominations will be accepted online at http://www.ohioschoolboards.org/apps/bhr12/BHR12p1.php. The deadline to submit selections is Friday, March 15. No nominations can be accepted after that deadline. http://ealerts.osba-ohio.org/msgs/1641.html
