    Required 08/09 School Year
Project MORE DIBELS Oral Reading Fluency Procedures
For Successful Programs
For the 08/09 year, Project MORE requires each school to test their Project MORE students at the student’s Current Reading/Instructional Level Only.  BGSU’s Center for Evaluation Services (CES) no longer requires students to be DIBELS tested at their current grade level. Schools will report this data on their school’s demographic forms in the fall and spring.  DIBELS ORF is required for any student at/above a 1.5 reading level.

The first step in pretesting students for DIBELS Oral Reading Fluency is to identify the student’s current reading/instructional level. This can be accomplished in several ways.

Determining Current Reading/Instructional Level:
>Check to see if the student has taken any standardized reading test that gives a grade equivalent score,
  >Administer an Informal Reading Inventory (IRI) like the Jerry Johns,
  >Check the IEP-the student’s current reading/instructional level may be indicated
  >Request reading/instructional level from the primary general or special education teacher

  >Use the student’s end of the year Reading-tutors Leveled Reading Packet Level if a student was in Project MORE last year. For example:  if a student ended 07/08 school year at Reading-tutors Leveled Reading Packet Level “O”, the student’s reading/instructional level is 2nd grade.

It is only necessary to identify each student’s current reading/instructional level for the pretest because each student will be posttested at the same level that he/she was pretested. For example, if a 4th grade student with a cognitive disability has a 2nd grade reading/instructional level at the beginning of the year, he/she will be pre and posttested at the 2nd grade level on DIBELS.  When reporting 08/09 DIBELS scores on the fall demographic form to BGSU include the student’s reading/instructional level he/she was tested.

If a student tests at a first grade reading level, use the 1st Grade DIBELS Winter benchmark test in the Fall and again in the Winter.

In the fall and spring, BGSU’s CES will send all schools the demographic form (hard copy and electronic copy) for entering these pretest/posttest data.
